The Christian Cigar Association: A New Era for Faith and Fellowship

If you’ve spent any significant time in a local cigar lounge, you know the vibe. It’s usually a mix of sports talk, politics that might make your grandmother blush, and a thick cloud of smoke that, while delicious, often carries conversations that don’t exactly align with a worldview rooted in the Word. You’re there for the leaf. You’re there for the relaxation. But sometimes, you’re looking for something more.

You’re looking for a brotherhood that transcends just "what are you smoking?" You’re looking for a community that understands that a premium hand-rolled cigar isn’t just a commodity; it’s a gift. It’s common grace. It’s, as our friend Charles Spurgeon famously put it, "a kind of incense drifting to heaven."

For too long, Christian cigar enthusiasts have been scattered. We’ve been the outliers in the secular lounges and the "secret smokers" in the church parking lot. That ends now. We are incredibly excited to announce the coming of the Christian Cigar Association (CCA), a new era for faith, fellowship, and the fine art of the smoke.

Why an Association? Why Now?

You might be asking yourself, "Penny, why do we need a formal association? Can’t we just keep smoking our Spurgeon Maduros and minding our own business?"

Well, sure. You could. But look around. The world isn’t getting any quieter, and the "liberty" we enjoy to sit back with a good stick is constantly under fire, both from overreaching regulations and a culture that has forgotten how to slow down and contemplate the deeper things of life.

An association provides something a single smoker can't: infrastructure.

We need a way to find each other. We need a way to support businesses that share our values. Most importantly, we need a way to organize "herfs" (that’s cigar-speak for a gathering, for the uninitiated) where the conversation is as high-quality as the tobacco. The Christian Cigar Association is being built to be the central hub for the faith-based cigar community. It’s about uniting the thousands of men and women who recognize that God gave us the tobacco leaf for our enjoyment and His glory.

The Need for Authentic Brotherhood

In a digital age, authentic brotherhood is becoming a lost art. We have "friends" on Facebook and "followers" on X, but how many people do you actually sit across from for two hours while a Churchill-sized stick burns down to the nub?

The cigar is the ultimate equalizer. It forces you to slow down. You can’t rush a premium cigar. If you do, it gets hot, bitter, and ruined. It demands your time. And in that time, relationships are forged. The CCA is about taking that natural "cigar logic" and applying it to our faith.

We’ve seen it happen already through the 1689 Cigar Club. We’ve seen guys from different denominations and different walks of life come together over a shared love for the leaf and a shared commitment to the Gospel. The CCA is the natural evolution of that spirit. It’s taking the "Gird Ya Loins" energy and scaling it.

We aren’t just looking for a "safe space." We’re looking for a staging ground. A place where we can encourage one another in our callings, discuss theology without the vitriol of the internet, and maybe, just maybe, convince that one friend that a Habano wrapper is objectively superior to a Connecticut (we’re working on him).

1689 Cigar Co.’s Role in the Movement

At 1689 Cigar Co., we’ve never been shy about who we are. We are a Reformed Christian cigar brand. We make cigars named after the guys who stood for truth when it wasn't popular. Whether it’s our No King But Christ series or our cheeky Meme Cigars, everything we do is designed to spark a conversation.

Because of that, we feel a deep responsibility to help anchor the Christian Cigar Association. We aren’t just selling you a product; we’re inviting you into a lifestyle of disciplined leisure. We believe that the CCA will be the vehicle that carries this message to the broader world.

We’ve spent years building relationships with blenders, shop owners, and enthusiasts. We’ve seen the hunger for a community that doesn't apologize for its faith or its love for a good double-jet lighter. 1689 Cigar Co. is proud to be a founding partner in this movement, providing the "fuel", both literally and figuratively, to get this association off the ground.

What to Expect from the CCA

So, what does an association actually do? This isn't just a fancy mailing list (though you should definitely be on the mailing list). The vision for the Christian Cigar Association is multi-faceted:

  1. National and Local Events: Imagine a national "Holy Smokes" conference where you can hear from world-class speakers, meet master blenders, and smoke with hundreds of brothers in Christ. Now imagine local chapters meeting in backyards and lounges across the country every single month. That’s the goal.
  2. Educational Resources: We want to teach people how to appreciate the leaf. From understanding the fermentation process to the history of tobacco in the church (did you know many old-school pastors were paid in tobacco?), we want to elevate the "IQ" of the Christian smoker.
  3. Advocacy: When the FDA tries to treat a $15 hand-rolled cigar the same way they treat a pack of gas-station cigarettes, someone needs to stand up. The CCA will be a voice for the "liberty of the leaf."
  4. Shared Values and Ethics: Supporting the CCA means supporting a supply chain that values craftsmanship, tradition, and hard work: values that are deeply rooted in a biblical worldview.

White Label Sub-Brands in the CCA Ecosystem

The Christian Cigar Association won’t just be supported by one company and one flagship line. That would be too small. Too neat. The real ecosystem is broader than that, and our white label sub-brands are a big part of what makes it interesting for smokers who care about construction, wrapper choice, and blend identity.

These brands are key players in the CCA ecosystem because they give smokers distinct lanes to explore without drifting into generic, copy-paste catalog cigars. Different names. Different angles. Different profiles. Same commitment to solid leaf and purposeful blending.

Preaching Badger is a true Nicaraguan Puro lineup, available in Nicaraguan Habano, Maduro, and Connecticut wrappers. That matters because when the blend stays rooted in Nicaraguan leaf, each wrapper variation highlights a different side of the same core identity instead of turning into three unrelated cigars. The profile is bold and full-bodied across the line, with spicy, earthy notes and a hint of natural sweetness that keeps it from feeling one-dimensional. Strong backbone. Real character. No fluff.

4 Freedom brings a more diverse lane structure with three clearly defined offerings: Pastor’s Reserve Maduro, Bishop’s Blend, and Sweet Elder. Pastor’s Reserve Maduro leans into darker territory with clear cocoa and espresso notes, giving it that richer, after-dinner feel a lot of Maduro smokers chase. Bishop’s Blend steps in with an Ecuador Habano Maduro wrapper and a heavy-hitting spice profile that doesn’t tiptoe around the palate. Then there’s Sweet Elder, built on a smooth Connecticut wrapper that delivers a creamy finish and a more approachable texture without becoming dull. Different cigars for different moods. That’s the point.

Post Tenebras Lux (PTL) is our signature flagship blend, and it wears that role well. This isn’t some throwaway side label. PTL is built around high-end Nicaraguan Maduro specifications, delivering a smoking experience that is deep, earthy, and contemplative from the first third to the finish. It’s rich without becoming sloppy, structured without becoming stiff, and memorable because the blend actually knows what it’s trying to do. In the CCA ecosystem, PTL serves as a defining profile. The kind of cigar people associate with the broader mission because it actually leaves an impression.

Steadfast Cigars is designed as a reliable daily smoke, which is harder to pull off than people think. Anybody can talk about complexity. Fewer brands know how to make a cigar you’ll actually want to reach for again tomorrow. Steadfast features a Habano wrapper with a medium-strength profile that’s balanced enough for regular rotation and flavorful enough to keep your attention. It’s the kind of cigar that fits naturally into long conversations, back-porch herfs, and the kind of fellowship the CCA is built to encourage.

New Mercy Moto is tailored for the biker community, but again, that doesn’t mean gimmick. It means identity backed by real blend choices. The lineup includes an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper expression with a floral and spicy character, plus Club Style Maduro and high-contrast Barber Pole options for smokers who want something with visual punch and a distinct profile to match. The dual-wrapper Barber Pole especially gives the line a little attitude without sacrificing purpose. Rugged branding. Real cigar specs. That’s how it should be.

Bottom line? These sub-brands help make the Christian Cigar Association feel like an actual ecosystem instead of a single-note idea. Preaching Badger. 4 Freedom. PTL. Steadfast. New Mercy Moto. Different labels, different personalities, different wrapper expressions. That’s good for the smoker. And frankly, it’s good for the movement.

Challenging the Conventional "Vice" Narrative

There will always be the "naysayers." You know the ones. They think that anything that brings enjoyment must be a sin. They’ve replaced the Gospel with a new set of "touch not, taste not, handle not" rules.

The Christian Cigar Association is a direct challenge to that way of thinking. We believe in the "Puritan" view of the world: not the caricature of the grumpy man in the tall hat, but the actual Puritans who believed that all of life belonged to God. If God made the sun, the soil, and the seed, and if man uses his God-given intellect to ferment, age, and roll that leaf into a masterpiece, who are we to call it "unholy"?

We smoke to slow down. We smoke to contemplate. We smoke to fellowship. When done with a heart of gratitude, it’s an act of worship. The CCA is here to reclaim that truth. We are taking the "stigma" and turning it into a "signature."

Gird Your Loins: The Call to Action

The Christian Cigar Association is coming, and it’s going to be bigger than any of us anticipated. But an association is only as strong as its members.

We aren't looking for passive observers. We’re looking for the guys who are ready to host a herf in their garage. We’re looking for the pastors who need a place to decompress after a long week of ministry. We’re looking for the businessmen who want to network with people who actually share their convictions.

If you’ve ever felt like a man without a country in the cigar world, your citizenship is being processed.

What can you do right now?

First, grab a five-pack of our Brotherhood Collection to get in the right headspace. Then, and most importantly, stay informed. The official launch details, charter membership opportunities, and the first wave of regional events will be announced through our channels very soon.

Don't miss the boat. This isn't just another club; it's a movement. It’s about time we stopped hiding in the shadows and started blowing some smoke: for the right reasons.

Sign up for our newsletter below to be the first to know when the Christian Cigar Association officially opens its doors. Trust us, you’re going to want to be in that first batch of charter members.

The era of the Christian smoker has arrived. Let's make it a legendary one.
